1947, creation of ESF Courchevel 1850

The Courchevel 1850 resort and its ESF Ski School were created the same year, in 1947. Three instructors, Léo ZAVANESKI, Camille CURTET and Jean SALLIER, unknowingly built a school that was to become a reference. Among their first companions, some, still on skis, proudly wear the red jumper and the medal that are the symbol of the profession.

Throughout its history, ESF 1850 has enriched itself by integrating instructors from the neighbouring valleys and from ranges and countries further away: this diversity is however deeply rooted in the district of Saint Bon-Courchevel and guarantees the solidity and the authenticity of a great ski school.

The 1960s were a major turning point

In the 60s, we already had 60 instructors. The first bubbles, Les Verdons, replaced the "bottle basket" (two seated) created in 1955. In 1966, Pierre GRUNEBERG and Robert BLANC introduce mini-ski to Courchevel, intended to become a major teaching tool.

ESF Courchevel in 2009:

- 500 instructors of which 70% are men and 30% women
- 12 languages spoken
- Over ten sports
- More than 250 instructors per day in private lessons
