Is there a discipline more accessible to beginners than skiing or snowboarding?
Skiing is usually considered easier than snowboarding because the movement seems more natural. In skiing, the two feet are separated and the legs glide independently, making the movement more like walking. The position and balance are therefore naturally easier to control than with a board.
In snowboarding, the configuration is de facto different: the lateral position and feet attached to the same board require a new mastery of balance, which is sometimes complicated for beginners to grasp. However, once you've gone through the rigours of the first few lessons, progress is faster on average with snowboarding than with skiing.
So while it's true that learning to ski can ease the transition to snowboarding - particularly for children, to whom we recommend a 2ᵉ star level in skiing before starting - it's perfectly possible for older novices to make their first glides on a board!
